. 4to. Pp. (viii), 84. With 4 plates (with old annotations). Contemporary cloth, worn. With stamps. Partly foxed. This work devoted to ancient Greek music is mainly based on three studies; 1. by Vincentio Galilei, Firenze 1581; 2. Johann Fell, Oxford 1672 and; 3. Jean Pierre Burette, Paris first half of 18th century. Prior to the discovery of the Seikilos epitaph in the late 19th century, the hymns of Mesomedes were the only surviving written music from the ancient time.
